Here we are starting out on the great adventure of marriage. If I had to choose one word to describe our life together, it would be "Fun". Tom has kept me laughing through the good times and the tears.

Thanks, babe.

He sends me a dozen yellow roses every year, even through the lean years. Now, I know yellow roses means "It's over" but this Texas gal loves yellow roses.

And a nice steak!!!

Kiwanis Pancake Festival

Tom and I attended the Kiwanis Pancake Festival this year.

11,689 visitors. Amazing we were in line only 20 minutes from door to pancakes.

56,520 pancakes and 36,000 sausage patties. All you could eat.

Some of the best pancakes, I have had.

Tom enjoying his pancakes.We had a great time, good food and the CD playing Willie Nelson's "Milk Cow Blues". Yes, we are in Texas! We love Willie.

Gone With the Wind

In January we had a big wind storm, reminded me of my youth when we had dust storms. Daniel and Ashley had a big tree in their front yard, that they had been thinking of getting cut down since it was dead.

Now it is gone with the wind. The windows in front of the house are Chloe and Caleb's bedrooms. Chloe was asleep in her room when the tree fell.

Let the cutting begin.

Thankful, that the tree came down perfectly. I believe in angels. Did not hit the house, cars or any power lines. And several people got some free firewood, including us.

Memories of Christmas Past

One of Tom's favorite memories as a child, was his mother taking him downtown Cincinnati to see the miniature train display at Christmas time. Since we were not in Cincinnati, it would be hard to recreate that memory completely. But found a good substitute here at home.

Jim Huges' Santa Express Train Show

Tom had a great time.

The exhibit features mountains and valleys, a large town, farm and ranch lands, an amusement park, zoo, airport, circus and much more. 19 trains, 340 automobiles and trucks. 250 and 1850 people. 1000 feet of track.

Santa's Express is truly a labor of love, and a gift to our community from the Hughes' family.

Thanks for the memories and next time you are in town will be bringing the grandchildren to add to their Christmas memories.

While Caleb was out of school for Christmas vacation Tom and I got some special time with him. First, we went to Chuck E. Cheese's for lunch and games.

One of his favorite things is to climb through this area hanging from the ceiling. Grannie is made a little nervous by this.

After a couple of hours, we moved on to the Mall and Lunar Golf. Pappy thought this was really cool.

You can barely see Caleb feeding an orange golf ball to this extinct flying reptile (pterodactyl) that was painted on the wall above him. After 36 holes of putt-putt, Pappy and Grannie were tired, but very happy to have spent time with our Caleb. One last stop before leaving the Mall. The photo booth of course.

Christmas Visitor

Now, I am not the kinda of lady to check out strange sounds in the night. Usually, elbow the hubby saying, "Honey, I hear something." But, last night I was awaken by the slightest sound of a bell ringing. Not a scary sound at all, so I crept out to the living room, cell phone in hand ready to dial 911. And what did I see...

Startled he dropped the package in his hand and tried to ...

He ran to the fireplace, trying to get away. I was snapping pictures all the way.

He shushed me!

He was gone in a flash, and I heard him exclaim,

Sister Sunday

Now usually on Sister Sunday, you will find my sisters and I scrap booking. This one we decided to go to the movies and see Twilight: Breaking Dawn. Really good movie, so I won't ruin it for you. If you don't know anything about the Twilight series, let me tell you it is a romance between Bella (human), Edward (vampire) and Jacob (wolf). Now the good part is you choose teams.

This Debra and Jane, they are on Team Edward. That is Edward on the poster, did I mention he is a vampire?

Cathy and I, belong on Team Jacob. That is Jacob on the poster. Did I mention he is the warm blooded one?

We had a great time and a lot of laughs. Can't believe we have to wait months now to find out the end to the series.

Happy Thanksgiving

We started our celebrating last Sunday with the Country Chapel Thanksgiving Service with Daniel, Ashley and the grand babies.

This has become a Thanksgiving tradition for us that we cherish.

Then today we had Thanksgiving at my niece and husband's home. Mandy and Chris.

This has been my world for the last few days, speakers and vendors. Everything you would want to know about the teaching of the LVN program. Picked up a few new things to try in the classroom. So, good to hear that everyone here is having the same concerns.

The Omni Hotel has been very good to us. Lots, and I mean lots of good food and snacks.We even had a wine and cheese party. Hotel staff are some of the best I have ever met.

Mary Jane, Della and Rilda from our campus in Vernon and Seymour. Love being with these ladies, I don't get to see them often.

Here we are at the County Line restaurant, watching the sun set over Austin area. Best Bar-B-Q I have had in a long time. Ever in Austin, Texas stop at this restaurant. You won't leave hungry!

This last Sunday Tom and I attended the Country Chapel Fall Roundup. We had a great time. Nothing better than being with your kids and grandchildren.

Vernon College Sports Day

Last week, I travelled to Vernon, Texas to attend the college's sports day on the main campus. This has become the month of road trips.

The Smurf's, name they chose for volleyball because of the blue scrubs they wear during clinical at the hospital. They played very hard, but lost. :(

They all seemed to be having a good time. A relaxing day for them. No Classes. Of course they are happy.

More of our students, we have 36 seniors that graduate in December. And 55 in the class following them. Doing my share in putting a dent in the nurse shortage. About half of the class moves to the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

Koffee Kup

Daniel and Ashley recommended us to stop at the Koffee Kup for a slice of pie and coffee on our way home from San Antonio. It is located in Hico,Texas.

Apple Pie, the all American favorite. You can't tell by the picture, but this is huge,about a fourth of a 8 inch pie.

This pie lives up to its name, Doctor's Office, On a Graham Cracker Crust filled with a Rich Cream Cheese and Vanilla Custard filling. Topped with coconut and pecans. It was my choice!!!

Hill Country Wedding

Michael and Sarah got married at her cousin's home in the Hill Country outside of San Antonio. Beautiful area to have a wedding. Lots of cedar trees and deer everywhere.

Yummy Wedding Cake is right up there with my other favorite cake, Birthday Cake.

Groom's Cake, was Tom's favorite. German Chocolate. As you can tell, the groom is a Dallas Cowboy fan. But,hey it is Texas what would you expect.

San Antonio Weekend

Last weekend we took a road trip to San Antonio to attend our nephew Michael's wedding.

I had forgotten what a beautiful trip it is...

We didn't get into SA in time to look for a place to eat so we ate at the KFC and Taco Bell combo.

The next morning we toured Lackland AFB, where we spent six years of our lives in the military. This is the dorm Tom worked at as a TI.

Tom enjoyed watching the airmen being marched by their TI's. Brought back some good memories of his Lackland AFB days.

This is a picture of Lackland High School, where Daniel graduated. Wish I could have gotten a better picture but they have really enlarged the campus. It is twice the size it use to be.

This is a picture of a skeleton bride, standing in the lounge of the Casa Real where we had lunch. We were all looking forward to some real SA Mexican food. The skeleton in the front should have told us something.

Best thing in the cafe was getting this picture of my sister with the last person to eat there, he had turned to wood. Ha! Ha! So it was back to the hotel to get ready for the wedding. More later....

Chili Cook-Off

Tom and I went to our very first Chili Cook-Off last night. Never knew there were so many different styles of chili right here in my own back yard. It was the kick-off for the United Way Campaign and they had a big turn out.

Healthsouth Rehabilitation, where Tom works had a booth. The following pictures are all employees of Healthsouth.

This is Brenda, she made a strawberry cobbler that was great and I don't even like strawberries. With her is Ricky who made the chili entry.

This is Sherri, she made a yummy cornbread. Served from a chuckwagon.

Of course everyone thinks their chili is the best, the concept is to eat some of all the different chili and then put a dollar in their can if you like it. The one with the most money gets the Peoples Award.

Hotter 'N' Hell Hundred

This year's race lived up to it's name. So far we have had over 90 days of 100 degrees plus. Still we had 14,000 riding in the race.

The race is a big deal here in Wichita Falls and brings in a lot of people from all over the States and other countries.

Tom and I were volunteers for the race, sort of... we got up and out the door by 5am, we babysit the grandkids so Danny and Ashley could work the race.

Scrap booking Retreat

I spent the last weekend at a scrap booking retreat with my sisters in the country.

You know how I love sunsets and this was really beautiful one.

We were having such a great time. This was my first retreat. My sisters have been to several.

This is the room where we worked on our scrap booking skills. I learned a lot from the ladies.

My sister Debra working hard on her pages. I think she did more than 20 pages that weekend. I finished 16 pages of pictures of the grand babies.

They also fed us very well. Yum...

The weekend was over quickly, I plan on doing this again someday. The last thing before we left they had a drawing and my sisters won both of the big prizes. Sisters Rule.

Pinning Ceremony

Today we had the pinning ceremony for the Fall 20ll class of Vocational Nurses. They and us had spent a long year preparing for this moment.

This is the Vernon College graduating class, don't they look happy and we the instructors were happy for them. After a year, even though we have grown close to our students, we are ready for them to leave the nest and they are ready to get started with their next adventure.

My LVN pin, most of the year it sits in my jewelry box along side of my RN pin. I remember my pinning as being such a happy moment.

I have come full circle. I got my LVN and my RN from Vernon College and now I am one of their Instructors.

Could not end this blog without a great big "Thank You" to this woman. Hazel is the secretary for our LVN Program and her organization skills for keeping the students Board of Nursing paperwork done is the best. She also coordinates the Pinning Reception. Cookies and Punch. Yum!!!

Today we are going for the record. 43 straight days of 100 plus degree days. Now, when you have that many days of high temps you get problems.

Cracks in the foundation. This is a picture of the corner of our patio. Now we have not used the patio at all this year because of the heat, but this makes me sick.

This is the side of the house, where this young man is installing hugh cement lifts under the foundation to make it level again.

I felt sorry for the workers, it was early morning and getting hot quickly. Thanks, guys you did a good job. No cracks and the floors are level. Plus, you cleaned up my patio, that I may get to use again sometime in December.

Coming Home

Cincinnati Skyline

So we were off to the Cincinnati Airport which is located in Kentucky. Go figure!

We got on our plane and was taxing out to take off right on time, when Tom said, "Do we have a flat tire?" Now, I was thinking, "Nooooo!" But, just then the pilot came on the speaker. "Ladies and Gentlemen, we will be returning to the gate. I think we have a flat tire." Once at the gate, he came on again and said, everyone was to get off the plane. It was a Broken Landing Gear! An hour and half later we were taking off in another plane. But, no one was complaining.

God is good, if the broke gear hadn't been found; we would have had a very scary landing in Dallas.

We are home safe and sound and enjoying the Texas life.

Last Shuttle Mission: July 8,2011

Wow! Isn't that an amazing sight.

We will not see it again and such a shame.

The space program brought us integrated circuitry, microchip technology, cordless power tools, smoke detectors, laser surgery, mammography, GPS systems, pacemakers, and Tang (Ladies that is our Crystal Light now). The space program indirectly saved a lot of lives and changed our world for the better. I for one, want to say a big Thank You.

4th of July Weekend

We attended a picnic with Daniel, Ashley, Caleb and Chloe. They have a church picnic every Sunday before the 4th of July. This was their 14th year, and it is always fun. Thank You, Country Chapel for always making us welcome.

Heart Healthy

No pictures, but wanted everyone to know I have a strong healthy heart and my cardiologists says so.
EKG, Echo Cardiogram, Stress Test and all the Labs were good. She said, "You have a strong heart and you don't need me." Best words I have heard in a long time. Just need to handle my stress better. Thanks everyone for the prayers. Thank God for the blessing of a healthy heart.

Now, I love Hobby Lobby and even better when I have a pocket full of gift cards. Bought lots of scrap booking materials for the next Sister Sunday.

They have their Christmas decorations out just in case you are in the mood.Yes it is June and we have had 30 days of triple digit temperatures. Being 105 degrees currently. Kinda hard to think about Santa right now. Sorry Santa!!!

Second stop, The Book Rack, another one of my favorite places.

This is one of the many nooks in the store, I love it that they have a chair for the customers to sit and read in all the different sections.

Home again, with a good book and large glass of peach iced tea with a wedge of lime (try this, it is great).

Reading, drinking iced tea, and snacking on Famous Dave's Pickles. Daniel introduced me to these pickles.They are great. Sweet with a little hot kick. A good way to fill a Saturday afternoon and avoid the summer heat.

Most people know that I am a nurse, well I found myself on the other side of the bed rail recently.

This is what happens when a little back pain, turns into chest pain. Plus you get to wear this very fashionable hospital gown. Yea!!!

Hubby looking way more concerned than I would have liked and tired.

This is where he slept. Said, it was lumpy and of course the nurses were in and out all night checking on me. My main night nurse, Walter, I had trained. Time for the ex-student to get even:) Only kidding he was great. Wish I had got a picture of him. At the time was not thinking about blogging. Can you imagine...that.

This was breakfast the next morning, notice no bacon and those are egg beaters. It is good that I have a sense of humor.

All 4 EKG's and 4 Cardiac Labs were normal, they only kept me for overnight observation because the nitro tabs they gave me in the ER made the pain go away.

Will be seeing cardiologist in the near future for a stress test. Now that sounds like more fun.

Friday with Hubby

First it was out to Lunch at our favorite lunch hangout.

Today we thought we would try something different. Usually we share the Nachos. Tom got quesadias, and said they were better than On the Borders.

I got the Martha's Salad and it was great!

After lunch, we always end up at our other favorite friday establishment.

Three videos and two Payday's later, we were off to home. Nothing exciting, just pure joy of living in the moment.

Strange though this little angel flew right to the page. Think she is looking at her guardian angel?

Friday Night Joy

Last night we had the joy of babysitting the Grandbabies while Daniel and Ashley enjoyed a Date Night.

Meanwhile in the playroom, Chloe is teaching Grannie how to play badmitton.

And even lifted a few weights, to show how strong she is getting. That's my girl!!!

Grannie and Pappy had a great time and love our time with the little ones. Although they are growing up so fast.

Happy Birthday to Me!!!

I love birthdays, I know most women don't want their ages known, but I am thankful for every year. And hope to celebrate many more years.

He got me the cake, photo printer (for scrapbooking), and a gift certificate for a pedicure.

Daniel, Ashley,Caleb and Chloe came to dinner with us to celebrate. I received a Birthday Card and a gift certificate for a Facial. As you can tell I am very blessed and spoiled. As it should be:) I had a great time. Thanks for the laughter and good memories. Love ya!!!

On a sad note, we lost our Grand-Dog, Daisy. She was a sweetheart and brought Tom and I a lot of joy over the years. Old girl you will be missed.

Awards For Caleb

Yesterday was Awards day at Caleb's school. He received Star Student Award for maintaining an "A" in conduct for the whole school year. Also, received the A/B Honor Roll Award in academics.

He loves to read and won an award for reading from his teacher.

Today is the last day of our vacation, it has been a lot of fun and relaxing.

Spent the morning down on the pier, where all the charter boats, fishing boats, and sailboats anchor.

After a walk around the harbor, we stopped in for a piece of Key Lime Pie.

I will miss this, but not the calories!!!!

Let's take a tour of some of the homes around the island. They are over a 100 years-old. Some were built here and others built in the Bahamas and brought to Key West and put together.

Some of the homes have been turned into bed and breakfast and others have become shops.

Southernmost Point, 90 miles from Cuba.

Poincana trees are in bloom this time of year and are beautiful.

And you know, I always make a few friends along the way. This is Mr. Sponge Man, but I am still looking for Capt. Jack Sparrow.
